गुडग़ांवI सनातन धर्म में पितृपक्ष का काफी महत्व होता है। पितृ पक्ष में पित्तरों का श्राद्ध और तर्पण किया जाता है, इसके साथ ही इस दिन कौवों को भी भोजन कराया जाता है। इस दिन कौवों को भोजन कराना काफी महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है। पितृपक्ष में पित्तरों का श्राद्ध और तर्पण करना जरूरी माना जाता है, यदि कोई व्यक्ति ऐसा नहीं करता तो उसे पित्तरों का श्राप लगता है। ऐसा शास्त्रों में उल्लेखित है।
ज्योतिषाचार्यों का कहना है कि कौवे हमारे पितरों का रुप धारण कर पृथ्वी पर उपस्थित रहते हैं। पंडित डा. मनोज शर्मा का कहना है कि श्राद्ध के दिनों में कौवों का महत्व और अधिक बढ़ जाता है। इसके पीछे एक पौराणिक कथा भी जुड़ी है। उनका कहना है कि इन्द्र के पुत्र जयन्त ने ही सबसे पहले कौवे का रूप धारण किया था, यह कथा त्रेतायुग की है। जब भगवान श्रीराम ने अवतार लिया और जयंत ने कौए का रूप धारण कर माता सीता के पैर में चोंच मारा था, तब भगवान श्रीराम ने तिनके का बाण चलाकर जयंत की आंख फोड़ दी थी।
जब उसने अपने किए की माफी मांगी, तब राम ने उसे यह वरदान दिया कि तुम्हें अर्पित किया भोजन पितरों को मिलेगा। तभी से श्राद्ध में कौवों को भोजन कराने की परंपरा चली आ रही है। कौवे से जुड़े शकुन और अपशकुन का रहस्य पंडित जी का कहना है कि ऋषियों मुनियों ने बताया था की प्रत्येक जानवर के विचित्र व्यवहार एवं हरकतों का कुछ न कुछ प्रभाव अवश्य होता है। हमारे सनातन धर्म में माता के रूप में पूजनीय गाय के संबंध में तो बहुत सी बातें सभी जानते हैं। कौवे के संबंध में पुराणों में बहुत ही विचित्र बात बाई गई है। मान्यता है कि कौवा अतिथि आगमन का सूचक एवं पितरों का आश्रम स्थल माना जाता है। यह किवदंती है कि समुद्र मंथन से प्राप्त अमृत रस कौवे ने भी चख लिया था। यही कारण है की कौआ की कभी भी स्वाभाविक मृत्यु नहीं होती।
यह पक्षी कभी किसी बीमारी अथवा अपने वृद्धा अवस्था के कारण मृत्यु को प्राप्त नहीं होता। इसकी मृत्यु आकस्मिक रूप से होती है। पंडित जी का कहना है कि यह बहुत ही रोचक है की जिस दिन कौए की मृत्यु होती है उस दिन उसका साथी भोजन ग्रहण नहीं करता। यह भी कहा जाता है कि कौआ कभी भी अकेले में भोजन ग्रहण नहीं करता यह पक्षी किसी साथी के साथ मिलकर ही भोजन करता है। मेहमान बनकर आता है कौआ पंडित जी का कहना है कि 16 दिन श्राद्ध पक्ष के दिन माने जाते हैं। कौआ इस दौरान प्रतिदिन हर किसी की छत पर मेहमान बनकर आता है। कौए एवं पीपल को पितृ प्रतीक माना जाता है। श्राद्ध में कौओं को खाना खिलाकर एवं पीपल को पानी पिलाकर पितरों को तृप्त करने की प्रथा प्राचीन काल से ही चली आ रही है।
